Description of The Bass Family
Bass Are cold blooded, their body temperature and more
importantly, their metabolism is controlled by water temperature. The warmer the
water, the higher their metabolism. Bass are most active between about 60
degrees and 75 degrees. Bass are a Schooling fish, which means they stick together in numbers. So if you catch one, chances are you will catch another in the same area.
Bass are Predators, meaning they like live prey. But rather than going out and hunting their food, bass lie waiting for an unexpected prey to come by them. At this time Bass will use their lightening fast speed to capture the prey.
Bass feed on things like, small fish, frogs, salamanders, small snakes, crawfish, insects and worms.
Through much of the year, particularly from late winter through spring, bass
usually can be found in or near spawning areas, namely fairly shallow, flat
areas with some cover and with quick access to deeper water. Everything they do
throughout the year is connected to the spawn. Once the eggs are laid, A bass will become very protective over their young and will risk their own live to keep them save. This also gives a great opportunity to catch them while they are concentrated at their nests.
Bass are all around a great game fish to chase and catch, but they are even better predators. Bass are a great group of fish to go after, none the less.... they are a force to be reckoned with.
